How can I tell if this stray cat weve ind of adopted is a boy or girl without getting too close?

i'm trying to think of a ladylike way to put this, but ermm, you'll be able to tell when the cat is walking away with it's tail up. A female cat will have two, ermm, holes (for obvious reasons) and a male will only have one. :)
