Is enlightenment found rationally or mystically?

uming there is such a thing as an enlightenment I would go with rationality. Enlightenment seems like it should be an understanding of the whole. To be enlightened is to have an understanding of ones place within the totality of the world. I would expect one could communicate this enlightenment to others hence one need rationality to explain it to others. Mystics could claim anything but how would one know if they were truly enlightened? So my vote is for rationality.
